The Institute for Translational Oncology Research (ITOR) of Greenville Health System (GHS) is located in Greenville, SC - the metropolitan epicenter of Upstate South Carolina, situated midway between Atlanta, Georgia and Charlotte, North Carolina.

Area Features Highlighted


Greenville's award-winning public school system is one of the largest in the state, serving more than 55,000 students. Private schools, international learning centers, fine arts centers, and other educational institutions provide special academic opportunities for students. Additionally, over a dozen higher learning institutions are located in the area, including the University of South Carolina and Clemson University, both of which have been recognized as top-tier research universities.


Greenville's reputation as a respected medical center is due largely to the presence of the Greenville Health System (GHS), a non-profit academic medical center. GHS is part of a $160 million initiative to foster life science research and provide cutting-edge technologies for patient treatment.


The Upstate region offers something for nearly any cultural or leisure pursuit, from museums and performing arts centers to spectator sporting events, diverse restaurants, and unique retail shops. Additionally, the area is host to dozens of festivals and special events that cater to a comprehensive range of interests, including music, art, food, and more.

Outdoor Living

The Upstate region has a mild climate that makes it possible to enjoy a range of outdoor activities throughout the year. Nearby mountains and lakes provide opportunities for hiking, camping, boating, and fishing, while golfing, biking, and other interests can be pursued at a variety of venues throughout the region.


In addition to the convenient location along I-85 midway between Charlotte and Atlanta, Greenville is also accessible via I-385 and U.S. Highways 123, 25, 29, and 276. The extensive network of highways has prevented Greenville from developing the traffic issues faced by many other metropolitan areas. The Upstate is also served by the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP), several smaller regional airports, and Amtrak.
